LVM snapshots
What a snapshot is
A snapshot captures a point-in-time view of a logical volume. It is not a backup unless exported and stored independently.
Classic snapshot example
sudo lvcreate -s -L 2G -n snap_data /dev/vg_lab/lv_data
Inspect and remove
lvs -a -o +origin,data_percent
sudo lvremove /dev/vg_lab/snap_data
Important
Snapshot capacity and performance characteristics differ between classic and thin snapshots. Consistent database backups may require application quiescing.
